Our Equipment, Technology and Innovation (ET&I) group - a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers - is focused on developing and supplying this equipment. Our product portfolio stretches across high-quality wave generation, instrumentation and data acquisition systems used by universities and marine research facilities worldwide. We also design and supply remote platforms for survey-related activities on inland water. Innovation and customer focus are the keys to our success.

Due to our recent growth, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Group Manager of ET&I to join our team and drive our thriving equipment and technology business forward. This is a senior management role within the group based in either Manchester or Wallingford office (with significant time in both offices).

About the role

This role will have overarching responsibility for the sales, design, production and development teams based in Manchester and Wallingford. ET&I develops various mechanical, engineering, and control elements systems such as wave generation systems, passive absorbers, force measuring instrumentation, carriages, cavitation tunnels, general data acquisition instrumentation and remote platforms.

As the Group Manager of ET&I, You will be responsible for managing the P&L and expanding the Equipment Sales business. Your role will involve fostering, developing and capitalising on new, innovative technologies within the framework of the Company’s Strategy.

You will also be responsible for staff and facilities and will work towards enhancing and modernising the techniques employed. Additionally, you will focus on increasing the focus on instrument innovation across the entire water sector.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate a significant depth and breadth of mechanical engineering management evidenced by a relevant qualification and/or a good number of years of mechanical engineering leadership and management experience. Understanding the drivers of manufacturing and project costs is essential. You will be able to demonstrate manufacturing experience working in an environment for product designs in extreme environments/conditions, e.g. maritime, space or similar industries. You will also be able to show significant project management experience, including being able to evidence delivery multi-million (£) to schedule, cost and quality and associated risk management.

Strong organisational skills in planning in the short and long term, managing changing priorities, and showing an ability to make well-informed decisions under pressure are prerequisites. This is a leadership role in which you would demonstrate your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. You must have excellent communication skills, including sharing information, and be confident and articulate – able to persuade, influence, and be diplomatic.
